Foucault humor

Michel Foucault and Jorge Borges sit down to lunch together.
Jorge:  "Michel, there is a fly in my soup!"
Michel: " Jorge, you'll just have to reorder."
Jorge:  "Ah, fly soup. Delicious!"

observations since yesterday!

i have found myself separate from my thoughts when i am listening authentically!  very cool.  i now have a totally different perspective on people watching.  Instead of just wondering about their daily lives i am wondering about what they care about and what really matters to them.   i also realize that in being human there is always SOMETHING people care about - although it may be radically different they still care!

Re-post from Seth Godin

The more or less choice

I think it comes down to one or the other:

How little can I get away with?

vs.

How much can I do?

Surprisingly, they both take a lot of work. The closer you get to either edge, the more it takes. That's why most people settle for the simplest path, which is do just…

Doing Something New

This time of the year makes me think of family, friends and relationships. It is the time of year for me then everything is going great or horrible. I did my Wisdom course this November in NOLA, New Orleans, and discovered I am a drama queen. I recently had a conversation with a gentleman I thought I was dating. When I asked if he was pursuing me in hopes of creating a relationship leading to a long term commitment he said "NO. That's not how I see you". (OK, Actually it was a text but you…

Cryin' shame

A wise man once sat in the audience & cracked a joke. All laughed like crazy. After a moment he cracked the same joke again and a little less people laughed this time. He cracked the same joke again & again, when there was no laughter in the crowd, he smiled and said, “If you can’t laugh on the same joke again & again, then why do you keep crying over the same thing over and over again”

Is Play the solution to our issues??

Maybe our approach is all wrong. Perhaps problems get resolved effectively on a playground. Let's try this~ Abandon the trappings of the board room and get back to the sand box. Leave the wingtips and suit home and put on a pair of sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt. Then let the solutions bubble to the top and stun people back to balance.

Two quotes from Steve Jobs 2005 commencement speech at Stanford.

‎"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

‎"If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the…

The Origins of Humanness in the Biology of Love-Humberto Maturana

i am reading a book by Humberto Maturana entitled " The Origins of Humaness in the Biology of Love" and i am seeing that it is one of the most important books that i have ever read. How wonderful to discover something of that caliber and to realize it.

So naturally, i must share it. Chapter One is a bit academic and can be skipped and chapter two entitled, "Human Origins" present the ideas in clear simple english and they revise Darwin ideas about evolution from the fame of the…

The sound of identity

We all use sounds to figure out where and who we are.

Bats use sound to locate themselves in the darkest of caves,

dolphins and whales use echo-location under the sea, elephants

emit sound waves so low humans can't hear - but other elephants

miles and miles away know how they feel, where and who they are.

Humans are not really so very different. Only we call our sounds language.

Call and response: a baby cries…

Kindness, courtesies, and the little things

I remember as a child being taught that it was very important to be kind.

As I neared school-age, the importance of kindness was impressed ever and ever more urgently upon me. Being a youngster, I don’t think I really understood what kindness was, but I knew it was sort of like being nice (pleasant, agreeable).  So – especially when adults were around – I made a point to try to be ‘nice.’ Perhaps not as fake as…
